ABOUT US

A Place Where Learning Begins with Wonder

Moonbeams Academy is a Waldorf-inspired community offering homeschool supplement programs for children ages 3–10. We’re here to support families who wish to give their children a gentle, unhurried childhood—one filled with imagination, rhythm, and plenty of time to simply be a child.

"If a child has been able in his play to give up his whole loving being to the world around him, he will be able, in the serious tasks of later life, to devote himself with confidence and power to the service of the world." -Rudolph Steiner

Our Commitment

Allow for the natural and unhurried unfolding of each child’s capacities. We know that play is the work of the young child, and we allow for gentle unfolding of the body and mind.

The Kingdom of Childhood is to be honored. We protect, nourish, and educate our children in ways that are developmentally appropriate. Our work and play is meaningful and beautiful. We seek to learn more about how children develop so that we can better understand what they need.

We Strive for Our Families to be Media Conscious. Current developmental research from educators, doctors, psychologists, and other professionals has shown that the viewing excessive screen media is not supportive of healthy development in young children. For these and other reasons, we strive for a “Media Free Diet” during the school week. We ask that our children do not watch or play screen media the day before school and on school days. We ask that our children’s clothing, backpacks, and shoes are free from media/cartoon characters and logos.

We Eat Whole-some Food and Get Lots of Sleep. We do our best to eat nutritious foods, free from sugar or chemicals. We allow our children to rest, and provide for them a long night’s sleep every night.

We Value the Natural World. We respect all of our neighbors, including animals, trees, rivers, and wind. We tread lightly on the earth, seeking to live simply, being mindful of the resources we use and the way in which we use them. We use products that are natural and non-toxic. We seek to connect with the world around us and in doing so spend lots of time out of doors. We help our children to dress for the elements every day.

We are a Community. We are committed to working together to create for our children and ourselves the world we wish to see. We join in the work of Moonbeams as volunteers whenever and however we can. Along with the greater community, we celebrate the rhythms of life through seasonal festivals. We support each other in our successes and our challenges. We communicate directly when questions or needs arise. We know that we are a part of a larger community that extends into our neighborhoods, cities, and around the world.

At Moonbeams, we honor the sacred unfolding of childhood through play-based, developmentally appropriate education inspired by Waldorf principles. Rooted in community, we nurture the whole child—body, mind, and spirit—by embracing simplicity, connection with nature, wholesome living, and the rhythms of life. Together, we cultivate a space where learning is joyful, family is central, and the natural world is both teacher and companion.

TESTIMONIALS

What others are saying

"Our family believes so strongly in the sanctity of childhood and Moonbeams is the place where childhood is honored and protected."

Moonbeams has been such a strong foundation in my children’s lives. My girls both started at age three, where their days were filled with rhythm and intention, natural toys and art materials, song and movement, handwork and bread making, and so much more. Our family believes so strongly in the sanctity of childhood and Moonbeams is the place where childhood is honored and protected. We’ve been a part of the Moonbeams community for over six years. I’ve watched my girls thrive and flourish into really kind and mindful and creative beings. I am forever grateful to Moonbeams for the big role they have played in my kids’ lives!!
